In order to honor and remember those who have been affected by violent crime in our community, the Alliance for Victims’ Rights (AVR) invites all Washoe County citizens to visit and reflect at the Holly Quick Memorial Garden. This Memorial Garden was created in memory of Holly Quick and other victims and survivors of crime, including but not limited to, murder, sexual assault, battery, domestic violence, harassment, stalking, and more in Washoe County. It is peaceful place for reflection and memory for the whole community to enjoy.
As violence seems to be an ever present part of our society, we would like the community to be part of healing and hope for the future. Violence has impacted many lives, either directly or indirectly, and sharing moments of strength and perseverance can be the common bond that many may need. As we celebrate the lives that were lost and hurt by violence, we will have speakers and community members present to share their stories and offer resources available in Washoe County. There will also be free food and drinks offered by Sparks PD and a live butterfly release.
In the Memorial Garden, there is a remembrance wall for surviving family and friends to honor their loved ones. The public can purchase plaques to memorialize loved ones by visiting www.avrnv.org. AVR encourages the public to visit the memorial wall at any time, and especially on June 21, 2017 at 5:30pm for a special ceremony. The memorial is located on the west side of the Sparks Marina, near Western Village (look for the blue balloons).
All community members are welcome to attend to help show support for those who have been affected by violence. Together as a community we can stand in solidarity to end violence and assist those who have been impacted.
Book Discussion facilitated by Katie Anderson of Washoe County School District
